It seems that Crystal was destined to be a hair stylist. With nearly all of crystal's seven sisters involved in various forms of styling (from food to fashion), making things look beautiful is practically a family tradition. In pursuit of that end, Crystal has spent a large part of her adult life doing fashion and hair in New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Portland. Crystal draws on her extensive education in the styles she creates for her clients. Because of her persistent desire to refine her skills, she has supplemented her education with significant advanced training, including studies at Toni and Guy Academy and Bumble and Bumble in New York and L.A. Among her core philosophies is the notion that every aspect of life and, more specifically design, represents an opportunity to be improved upon. Crystal personifies the idea that one's personality and interests inevitably influence their craft. Her involvement in environmentalism and holistic health ground her styles with a natural aesthetic, offset perfectly by the rock and roll edge, borne from her insatiable immersion in Portland's music scene. However, it's her empathetic and intuitive nature that supports the collaboration of ideas between stylist and client, which she believes to be the most imperative prerequisite to good hair design.
Combining innovative and modern styles with classic precision, Jess covers all grounds.
Her training in advanced cutting, styling, and color comes from some of the most renowned educational institutions in New York and Philadelphia including Bumble & Bumble, Vidal Sassoon, Wella Color Studios, and Nick Arrojo. Her determination helped her finish third in the Internation Intercoiffure Nouveau competition for cut and color. "Creative, intuitive visionary" best sums up her work. Jess's care and skill shows not only in her immediate results, but also in how well your hair develops into the cut and color.
Her understanding of how hair works, it's shapes, patterns, and textures, helps her craft a uniquely perfect style for every client. Jess's fun-loving and attentive personality, versatility, and desire to help people love their hair makes the experience all the more enjoyable.
She loves travel and adventure in all forms whether it be trail riding motorcycles, camping on a mountain top, or drinking fine wine and shopping in Paris.
Jessica has been styling, cutting, and shaping people's hair for over a decade. With a background in sculpture, and an innate ability to express mood and personality through hair design, she creates looks that are perfectly coupled with her clients' vision and style. Her classical fine art training and love for hairdressing drive her to create an innovative, elegant, ever changing aesthetic. She finds special pleasure in sculpting short cuts, creating gorgeous color, and styling hair for events, fashion shows and photo shoots. Her passion and commitment to the evolution of her craft is rooted in her extensive training with Bumble and Bumble, Toni and Guy, Howard McClaren, and Nick Arrojo. With this foundation and a dedication to continued education, Jessica has been teaching fellow stylists in San Francisco and Portland for the past 9 years. Outside the walls of Pinn, you can find Jessica exploring the wilds of Oregon with her family, wielding a torch in her jewelry studio, practicing yoga, and tending to her garden.

Alexandra James is originally from Tempe Arizona. She feels eternally inspired by the desert landscape. From the southwest she moved to Vancouver Island where she studied cosmetology at the Paul da Costa Institute. It was there she developed a solid hair-styling foundation from top artists within the Aveda Network. That education carried over into her current passion for Davines.
Through this initial training that she learned hairstyling can be transformative, “It elevates one’s mood and changes how we move through the world. A good hairstyle has the potential to be more than an aesthetic change, it can be an experience.” She believes that experience begins with a good consultation, “This is where we first connect. Where I listen and figure out who it is sitting in my chair, what their unique qualities are, what they want to enhance or create, and what works for their lifestyle- we devise a plan.”
Alexandra James has been a professional hairstylist for 12 years. She’s worked in Victoria B.C., Tempe Az., and the last 6 years in Portland, Or. In that time, she has evolved her skills by participating in advanced color, cutting, and styling education. She is confident in all areas; whether short or long, bright or soft, up or down, she can create it.
Alexandra is also a visual artist working in various mediums. She holds a BFA from PNCA where she studied painting, drawing, sculpture, and ceramics. She believes this experience informs her hairstyling and vice versa, “hair is another medium to express the language of the self. I think even a simple cut can be artistic and beautiful. It’s all about the intention going into it and the detail. I love the details.”
At Pinn Salon Alexandra has found a great home to exhibit her craft. Visit today and ask about her little three-legged dog Pearla!
